16 October, 2016
It is with much sadness that we write on the matter of the Thai King’s passing on Thursday.
According to our information the PACTRIMS meeting will proceed but with due respect to this very important and sad event.
The reasons are as follows;
(1) King Bhumibol Adulyadej was greatly respected and revered and we believe there is very little likelihood of unrest at this time,
(2) there is one month for the funeral and other important related events etc., and a one year period of mourning and
(3) the Crown Prince has deferred assuming the throne for a time.
Finally Prof Naraporn Prayoonwiwat, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee of this PACTRIMS meeting has indicated that the overwhelming mood in Bangkok is one of sadness.
So we will proceed with the meeting with confidence and respect.
We look forward to meeting all attendees and speakers on Thursday 27th October.
Should there be any reason for an update on the situation or any reason to amend this advice we will communicate it.
With best wishes,
