The idea of having a Asia-Pacific-centered group for MS sprung from the MS forum in Taipei in 2007.
A group of eminent neurologists decided that a regional committee would be useful to share best practices. This would be modelled after the European and American Committees on Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis (ECTRIMS , ACTRIMS).
After some discussion, the group decided on the name - Pan-Asian Committee on Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis (PACTRIMS). Thereafter, the group convened in various parts of Asia-Pacific at annual meetings.
